Maxtor n40P

December 19th, 2007, 11:33

I have a problem with the following maxtor HDD:
Model 6E040L0510614-KMCA-B8FEA
Firmware 6E040L0510614-KMCA-B8FEA-4265
I reflash firmware with PC3000 V.14 and operation seems to be OK.
If I restart computer with reset button, the HDD is normally recognized by BIOS (Maxtor 6E040L0) and it works fine.
But if I turn off PC, when I turn on PC the problem returns (BIOS again recognize HDD as "Maxtor N40P" and it Obviously don't work).
Can somebody help me to solve this problem?

Are you using a legitimate copy of PC3000?

Are you attempting to re-use the drive or are you just recovering data?

Data has been recovered but I'm curious to know the reason for this behavior.
Device PC3000 belongs to a friend of mine and I think it's original.

I think it's original? Hmm, not likely.

G-List on the drive is probably filling up again and corrupting. Turn off bad sector re-allocation and try it, but either way, just buy a new drive!

Thanks for your reply. HDD has already been replaced. I was just curious to know the reason for this behavior.
