 Post subject: WD4000KD can UDMA unlock this drive?

WD4000KD can UDMA unlock this drive? I tried and UDMA seems to recognized as Caviar 32 but the functions to check modules and remove password unavailable.

the password stored in module 02 if it's Marvell-based HDD or in module 42 for WDC CPU
you can get original password from the module and remove it by standard command

Thanks Doomer, i cant even check modules, they're all empty, probably recognized incorrectly.

This is Hercules family
This drive has WDC CPU
That means you need to somehow force PC3000 utility to understand that
Another thing if utility is gonna use physical access to SA commands the utility supposed to understand that because physical access commands were changed a little bit for this family
I'm not really familiar with PC3000 utilities but I think the utility is trying to use old style commands I suggest you to ask PC3000 guys for help maybe they can fix utility

Doomer, i have a drive that has failed it spins up has faint clicking then shuts down. ontrack was able to view data but sent it back. dont have $1300 to recover. do i get a simular drive and start replacing parts? thanks for any help

This drive was an in between model. From what I remeber they use WD Marvell access commands but STILL use WD ARCH type system areas...

I think :?: Haven't seen one for about 2-3 years

Visually it looks the same as the WD5000KS drives. (PCB shape etc) Is it not?

I purchased another drive and replaced the boards on them. The drive now spins up and stays on but I cant access it. I think this is were pc-3000 comes in to play if i had the program. Any one have any ideas as to what I can do from here?
