can anyone tell me if i buy the pc3000 pci version
which the company does not support anymore.

but can it still be used for recovery and firmware repairs of hard drives etc

as im thinking of purchasing to learn about it etc.


or do they have some type of copy protection time lock on there products.
where it last for the year and then locks up

On Dec 31st 2008 at midnight, Acelabs will push a glowing red button at the Russian home base which will set off a small explosive charge rendering the pc3000 card useless. You have from now until the end of the year to learn as much as you can! The fake Chinese cards have a nasty habit for exploding whenever the user tries to get tech support for the card.

I don't believe you can even purchase it anymore directly from them. And I'm sure they support it but I'm not sure if they support for second-hand purchases. If you're interested in learning about it, why not take their course? The ISA version can still be used to conduct some recoveries but the UDMA version supports everything the ISA and PCI did.

I disabled the C4 charge in mine by simply cutting the red wire.

We still use PCI and ISA, and if PCI requires new licence at any time, requesting it is not a problem. No additional updates available, and no support specifically for issues with PCI but is still a good recovery machine.

I agree. They are very good about all licensing issues, etc. Plus purchase comes with forum access and they are very quick to respond to questions.

I have to say that, besides the additional drives supported, the speed their UDMA version gave me for imaging drives was well worth it.

it looks like the real acelabs card its got acelabs printed on the board.

we not bothered if there no tech updates.

all we want to know is the last version they made
is there any time lock on these products.

I also still use my pci, together with udma. Udma is wow quicker! And Acelab never told me that they will disactivate my pci.
