So far I have repaired over 50 of these 7200.11 Seagates with stay BSY or 0GB fault, but I currently have 2 of these drives now which I can not repair. Both have 0GB fault. I have tried repair with PC3000 UDMA which generates a 'Unable to load overlay' error. HD Doctor for seagate freezes and is unable to repair, and also access to disk via RS232 and teraterm also can not repair.

I have asked acelab about this and they have told me that their solution works on most but not all 7200.11, and at present drives with newer fw cannot be repaired.

Anybody else experience this? I am trying a few things with these disks, but any info anyone has would be helpful :)

This could be bad sectors in the translator.

You could try adjusting the write retries parameter on the m0 command to see if that will help, but I think that the drives are stuffed.. There seems to be a similar fault with 5400 F3 arch drives too..

The fact that doomer is quiet on this thread may indicate something ;)

had problem with my ST3500340AS also,
send to a data recovery centre n they said the damage platter caused the firmware to corrupt,
but they said can 99.9% recovery, since the platter is damage how can?
saw this forum, seems buying same ST3500340AS can replace the PCB n it will ok?
what about the firmware?
this hard disk never banged etc, only sleep mode n after that cannot detect,
1st was able to see in USB as mass storage ok, then device manager ok, then disk drive ok,
but without drive letter...now only can have in USB mass storage ok, provided i plug to enclosure box,
if not, the PC stuck also.
plz advise can i get a ST3500340AS regardless of firmware n send to a technical etc?

2 questions:

1: What firmware version are the drives you are unable to fix.

2: Can you paste the terminal readout for us?

Hi, Don't mean to hijack an old thread but I have a drive here with the same symptoms. Did you manage to figure it out and fix this one?

This Momentus 5400.6 sata drive is seen in the bios and is detected in windows as a 0mb raw drive. Using an ide to sata converter the drive will id correctly but in Victoria the geometry is reported as incorrect. Is this a translator problem?

In terminal the results from my understanding show the drive as good.

This is normally a translator fault but it is more complex than the 7200.11 fault. What have you tried so far?

Did you happen to read date on this post it is over 17 months old now on this one. Why answer to a dead post? Seems like a lot of this one lately everyone is answering to done post and very old ones too. Sure they are done and closed by now.

Did YOU happen to read the date of the post I was replying to? Just over a month old, from somebody I believe that I know, regarding a topic that is still very much an issue for some DR people (I'm still getting these jobs referred to me).

Nobody seemed to mind Dick asking the question, as such I don't see what the problem is in my trying to answer it for him...

Sorry if that upsets you in some way.

Hi, Yes I knew it was an old thread when I posted but my question was aimed at Zebong after he commented on a 5400.6 momentus drive with 0MB but he never came back to post. I had searched and it was probably the only thread with a reference to this issue and as he said he would post his findings I was curious. Unfortunately he didn't. You could help and come back with a valid opinion and answer my question.
Anyway as after my post nobody was wanting to give any input I just gave the drive back with a recommendation to a pro company.
A translator issue it would seem?
Any positive input from any pro would still be appreciated!
