I have Windows XP, and Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 HDD, and use it as external with enclosure Kingwin, which has JM20316 chipset inside.
I would like to know if it's possible to organize spindown (or stop) of this external drive,in case of inactivity of the computer? Like all internal hdd do, in Windows. I know that some HDD (like Seagate, WD) can do it, there are even special utulities for external HDD, like "WD Spindown or Stop Utility", but it doesn't work with my combination.
My previous HDD was damaged because of overheating in the same enclosure, so i need your suggestions how to make it spindown and prevent overheating. Thanks!

Get rid of the kingwin heat trap and buy a better enclosure with a good fan.

A T7K1000/7K1000B isn't a very hot drive in my experience.... As long as the enclosure is metal, and at least part in contact with the drive, you shouldn't need a fan.
