hi all
just looking for abit of advise please,

we recieved a drive mk8046gsx which has been to another DR company first,
drive was clicking and not getting ready, we replaced the heads, now the drive will power up, show correct capacity, show f/w as the label on the drive and show serial number

however he serail number on the label and the serial number displayed by pc3000 are not the same,

drive is showing it is locked and trying to unlock drive repsons daying it is not locked

i am suspecting a different board has been returned with the drive, i also suspect drive has been opened as lable has been detached from the drive, so this is in short an extremely messy drive.

Thank you in advance for all your help

ATTENTION!
HDD Is currently locked.
You may use command "Work with service area" / "Password removal" to unlock the HDD.

Sounds like either the wrong lid has been put on it, or it's the wrong PCB.

Any way to find out the original s/n?

The warranty check should give you an idea of the manufacture date.

Toshiba warranty status checker:

The Year/Week date codes on the ICs (YWW or YYWW) should reflect the manufacture date of the PCB, and would probably closely match the manufacture date of the HD.

You are using the GSY utility, a disk GSYN.
Therefore the modules GLIST, smart etc. can be on other coordinates

I would expect that PC3K would retrieve the G-List using VSC to read G-List instead of reading physical coordinates. Same to clar password.

Even if this is the case, the commands for reading Glist may differ in the parameters
Therefore the command with the wrong parameters (hard-coded in the utility) will return an error
for the inappropriate family.

I would expect that PC-3000 would issue the VSC to tell the drive to generate a new fresh "S" sector rather then reading the S sector and replace it with a copy from unlocked drive or standard S sector ....

in pc3000 there is an option to save the sector with a password and restore it.
Therefore, it is not the fact that regeneration is used.

The command for reading the G-list is the same for both models , but the SC value is diffrent. So the drive reject the command and put 20h in the error register.
