And why do you want to update it? Seriously, there is no reason a home user would need to update a firmware on a drive, unless instructed by manufacturer (ie. .11 SD15 etc).

This is an attempt to retrieve the information. While working on the laptop was turned off and did not start. The BIOS does not recognize the disc.

I have read in forums that might be a problem in the firmware and if they could be restored to regain access.

It's not that simple. For the second time today, I'm linking to this thread to repeat the explanation about why it's not that simple:

The drive needs to be quite "healthy" to use a normal firmware upgrade. If the drive is so "sick" that it is not recognised in the BIOS, then a normal firmware upgrade is also impossible, as the disk isn't responding to (S)ATA commands.

Which forums did you read, that suggested you do a firmware update to resolve this problem?

Does the disk spin as normal, when the laptop is switched-on?

@netempleo, when you say that you have the firmware, which firmware are you referring to?

What firmware issue does this HDD have?

When threads are closed and long gone nobody goes back and updates information. Some new people try to answer others and they do not understand the correct way to do something. Other information is not supplied in public forums for this reason. Even in private forum answer are supplied and new people who have the tools try these answers and can not make them work. What works once for one drive can, might, and or will not work again for another drive. This guy wants to update his FW that is in the SA how do you think he can do this one? Well that one is simple with PC3K, SD, or Atola. But he does not have these tools to work with and do this one with. So even if some answers are given without tool, understanding how to use them and what is the real problem. I would like to suggest if you feel some information is wrong in posts please feel free to go back to all of them and change them to the information you feel is correct. That would be really nice of you to do this one. All of us work and do not have time to spend searching old posts and correcting them and updating them. If you have free time this one could be good for you if you actually know the right answer.

Searched for any issues with BEVT- found nothing, except for the ads from Datacent and similar websites. I guess there is no issues with the HDD.

I am not a moderator, therefore can't modify any posts.

I was asking along the lines of knowing what inexperienced people do, so that if I come across their drives and they describe something similar to what one of these other forums out there, then I could confirm what they did. This would aid my ability to understand better what happens with some of these drives.

Thought that more than me would like to know.

Dont be so quick to give the impression/assumption that all end users are morons. Just so happens that this "moron" has successfully re-flashed the firmware onto numerous optical, and magnetic storage devices to regain access to their content. Some of the more faulty ones required it periodically in fact.
