hi, guys.
I was curious whether there is some means to detect the accurate size and region of SA in WD hard disk. I see someone can get count of its cylinder, SPT(sectors per track) by some tools like DFL or PC3000. Is this info accurate? Can we get this info by using tools like wdr or do some programming ? thanks for your help.

Yes, WDR provides the info that you are looking for, but you need a full version, not the DEMO.

Try to right click on the window :)

Thanks, Spildit. I have a hard drive WDC 1600BEVT-22ZCT0. And here is the info of Reserved Region Table.

Code:
WDC WD1600BEVT-22ZCT0 FW:08.02D08 SN:WD-WX90AC9D4480 (ROYL selected) port 0xF070
Logical: Cyls 16383, Heads 16, Sectors 63, LBA 312581808, 160Gb
Controller Buffer Size: 8192Kb
Family: Denali (Royl)

2015-5-7 10:34:16 Read Region Map - UNKNOWN ERROR 0000

Reserved Region Table
---------------------
Next Entry Offset :46
Num Of Regions    :02
File ID           :0FFF
Active Regions    :03

Region 1: Size:A0B3     Start:15A80
Region 2: Size:A0B3     Start:2B500
Region 3: Size:0        Start:0

Region 5: Size:0        Start:0
Region 6: Size:0        Start:0
Region 7: Size:0        Start:0

I really don't know the Size the the Start field. Is the start the ABA address or anything else? Dose the size mean size in sectors or size in bytes or anything else?

And is the size of SA is the sum of these regions or anything else?

BTW, Ariel Berkman once mentioned a way to calculate the size of SA. Here is his documenthttp://www.recover.co.il/SA-cover/SA-cover.pdf. I get some info of WD1600BEVT-22ZCT0 and this is the link http://www.hddfirmware.net/product/wdc-wd1600bevt-22zct0-11-01a11-wd-wxh408346233zip/.

Code:
Techno mode key
Techno mode key......................... : Ok

RAM:
HDD Info reading........................ : Ok
Heads number............................ : 2
Cyl Count............................... : 128

Zone allocation table................... : Ok
SA SPT.................................. : 707

ROM:
ROM reading............................. : Ok
ROM Data size........................... : 192 Kb
ROM version............................. : 04.2FC
ROM generation.......................... : 04.2FC
Link table version...................... : 01.0T.
Consolidated ROM version................ : 0004002F

ROM Modules:
Flash ROM dir reading................... : Ok
SA regions address...................... : by default
SA Translator loading................... : Ok

Heads configuration..................... : by map
Heads number............................ : 2
Heads number in use..................... : 2
Switched off heads...................... : No
Heads map............................... : 0,1
ROM Firmware version.................... : 0004002F

Service area:
Permanent overlay....................... : Loaded
SA dir reading (ID)..................... : Ok
SA Access............................... : Copy 0,Copy 1

So the size of SA can be calculated like this, 2*707*128*512 = 88Mb, is this correct?

Thanks for your help and guide.
