Hi all,
I'm new to this forum. I have an ASUS laptop with following specs:
Intel® HM87 Express Chipset
DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM, 12 G
Graphic NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5 VRAM
Storage 2.5" 9.5mm SATA 1TB HDD 5400 RPM

I recently tried to reinstall windows 8.1 and that it didn't end well. After 4 or 5 attempts, the installer no longer detects the presence of any partition. Not only did I loose all the data, a technician(though not an expert I believe) says that the hdd is dead. Is there a way to know if the hdd is irrecoverable? I wish there is way to get my data back even though the hdd was formatted :!:
Thanks in advance.

It looks like the data is important for you - so seek the assistance of a pro
- and not insultingly ment - dont mess around on your drive - or dont let
that happen from self declared experts. The more the drive is "tested /
turned on" (in defect condition) the more chances you have to loose all
your data - or at least to need much more money to have it recovered
(from a pro).

We offer such a quick test for free - so it should be possible to find that
also in France.
Further steps depend on the result of this test ....

If data isnt valuable, have the hdd tested and if its defect buy a new hdd
and reinstall Windows on the new hdd.

If you are still in warranty with the laptop you most probably have two
chances (without data recovery !):

1) Let the laptop repair from manufacturer or your dealer - they will install
Windows completely - on a new hdd if necessary
or
2) ask for an exchange of hdd in advance - after receiving an empty hdd in
advance you need to install Windows yourself - and to send the old defect
hdd back to manufacturer.
