Data Compass adopts UDMA100 transmit protocol to reduces the time it takes to image a disk with bad sectors, at least 30% faster then any other imaging tools available elsewhere.

According to our pioneer 3+1 Data Recovery process, the stage following the drive restoration will be file recovery using Data Compass.


After bringing the drive back to life, as a data recovery professional, you know now you need to recover the file system which may be damaged using file system recovery software; and maybe you know also you need to do a disk imaging in order to work from an accurate, stable hard drive image.

Unfortunately, traditional disk imaging tools and methods are designed for and work on good HDDs only, not the patient HDDs that are unstable or inaccessible because of media defects and instable head, which are common challenges of Stage 2 in practice. Even more, with those traditional imaging tools, the time involved and the ordinary user-level repeated-read access to the media bring a risk of damaging the disk and head, making data lost irretrievable.

But now there's a better way: The disk probing device included in the Data Compass suite bypassing the disk-level problems such as multiple bad sectors, damaged surfaces, malfunctioning head assembly, or corrupted servo info, while in the meantime you can use the default software provided or define any other software you have been familiar with (R-studio, Winhex, any) to perform file recovery. Through the Data Compass, problem drives will become intact hard drives and ready for file recovery attempts..

Thanks for the heads up on the new product. However, from experience I'll wait until I get the general thumbs-up before taking a chance on another Salvation software tool.

Bypass SA failure? Interesting. I wonder how many drives this will work on.

They need to post some clear videos on You-tube with problem drives fixed by their product. Let us "see" why it is a good imaging tool.

i just want to tell other members of new data recovery products

Wonder if this will push back the atola release. Until atola have similar features and more to gain the market. Or can atola be updated via software, for advancements. Its all going to get very interesting soon, sit back and see who wins. It would bnice if they all do as advertised, with detailed clear and concise english user manual.

Data Compass is approx $2200. Anyone going to be forking out this money on a untested product? I'm tempted but would rather read some reviews first. Maybe Salvation Data should offer some freebies to repected members of the DR community for review.

Judging from the quality of Salvation's current software tools, At $500, I'd buy one and wait for (Or gamble that) Salvation polishes it into a solid product. At $2200, one would have to be an absolute fool to buy one over the Deepspar imager.

Indeed... I do not believe for one second that it will not have lots of serious bugs and at 2200 it is definitely too much money to "try" it. I'd pay up to $1,000 personally... By pricing it that high they are starting to compete on quality basis (as pricing is getting close to the Deepspar) and that will be hard.

Their marketing for the compas very strongly resembles the deepspar website (plus a bunch of spelling/grammatical errors) LOL

Do you guys think there is actually a market for so many players? How many recover companies are there out there? Most reputable ones have PC3K and/or Deepspar and/or their own stuff. Will Atola or Salvation sell enough units to make it worthwhile??

I’d be pleased if Salvation Data answered my emails. I requested price information and release date information as I am interested in purchasing but they never got back. I can't really see the point in promoting a new product if you are not willing to communicate with its potential new customers.

I assume the first people who order it will be their Beta testers based on my previous Salvation Data experience.
They say the price is going up to $2,800 at the end of the month.

I would have bought one already if it worked fully with more than just Hitachi drives. They are working on Seagate and WD and others, but they can't yet extract data on those without SA....or I'd already own one...I've gotten a quote on Atola too..which I find most interesting...I requested a list of supported drives, but haven't gotten it yet.
