You really paid $100 for a IDE/SATA USB adapter? You realize you can get the exact one they supply for $8 from Amazon...

LOL

I believe it's their USB to SATA adaptor, not SATA to USB :-)

For attempting to clone USB drives.

Sorry, yes.

USB to IDE, not SATA.

But it's still not a regular $8 IDE to USB adaptor, that's what I was trying to say :-)

SalvationData are mangling the terminology.

AISI, their adapter connects a USB mass storage peripheral to an IDE host. The commonly available adapters connect an IDE device to a USB host.

Thanks for the informative review :-)

I did wonder why they showed a USB stick in their promotional material, rather than a USB HDD :?

I think it's better than Salvationdata

I don't know if it's the same device (the pinout looks the same), but here are the technical docs for Epson's S1R72U16 IC which bridges an IDE host to a USB mass storage peripheral.

Do you have it?

If so, can ordinary software (eg CrystalDiskInfo, smartmontools) get a SMART report from the drive by using standard ATA commands?
