it was making musical sounds when turned on but then randomly i turned it on and spins
i dont trust my data with anyone other than myself

i have the tools and kit to carry out the work myself but was hoping if some one has a spare drive/pcb
its an old drive so i do not imagine people are using them to run windows 3.1

is there any tests i can do on the pcb or are there any components i can replace or take out to fire the drive up

Good ! Then use them, if you are so confident.

Also just for us to know, do you intend to get a pcb/drive for free and the gentle person offering you the drive will also have to pay shipping of the drive to you ?

If you are so confident that the problem is with pcb then buy one drive / pcb from that link on ebay that i've posted. You can even mail the seller and ask for a pcb with the same firmware as yours, and it's about $30 usd...
If your data is not worth any money forget about it and move on.

After all most likely it will not be a pcb issue to start with...

Ok. Good luck with someone sending one for free then.
Best regards and hope you get your data back.
Moving on. . . Next one !

Old drives have their own peculiar problems. Pretty certain the problem is internal rather than external! Also now it appears to spin when before it didn't has probably made a recovery more complicated and of course more expensive.

If you end up chosing TO PAY to get your data recovered and if no-one else are willing to accept the challenge, just want for you to know that my PC-3000 ISA supports your drive at firmware level :

And i can do head swap if necessary on your drive (have clean room access - expensive to use and a laminar flow workbench as well).

Regards and good luck for the free pcb.

i can do a head swap myself if required but just need a donor drive or pcb
if it works by replacing the pcb then it will be better

What tools are you using for firmware diagnostic ?
Do you have access to a hepa 100 clean room ?
Do you like music ?

So you want PCB and Hard drive for FREE but you don't want to even tell us what tools you are using ?

Is that so ?
