Don't have experience with that model, but I can say for sure that the tight width will make it more challenging to work, potentially leading to mistakes. Aesthetically looks pretty good.

They do a bigger version but its 3 times the price.

I've seen a perfect unit here for £1000 but alas I don't have it to spare right now

I started out with that Air Science Purair FLOW-24 unit and it is not perfect :(
I found out immediately that I needed to add an acrylic sheet to the front to increase air flow inside. It's a poor design in my opinion. Maybe I had a lemon but I did buy it brand new.

Thanks David. I'm almost finished a 24" version that uses a user-replaceable 14.25" x 18" x1.8" HEPA filter that removes 99.97% of particles 0.1+ microns in diameter. It will be used as a portable. I'll post about it once it's finish, hopefully in the next day or two.

Thats really impressive !

I like the way you have also made it so it can be replicated.

I'm going to show it to a friend and see if he could manufacture it for me but maybe with a bit more height.

I'm assuming you get zero contaminants on the platters etc with this box ?

@Slingshot, thanks. I don't have a particle counter so cannot be sure what the "Class" rating is, but believe it's Class 100 (100 particles per cubic foot). I don't notice any particles on top platters but particles too small to be resolved with the naked eye could be present and I'd not detect them without a laser particle counter. I've done many successful head swaps in my chamber, which is what counts.

I just finished a 24"-wide version of the chamber and noticed in reviewing the drawings for the V2 version that there is an error. In the top half, the sum of the individual widths exceeds the total width of the material (48"). This 24" version uses a HEPA filter that removed 99.97% of particles 0.1+ microns in diameter, and has a working area that is slightly deeper (12") than the V2 version. It is intended to be transportable for on-site inspections, so has latches that hold the cover securely closed.

Anyway, feel free to modify the design to suit your preference.

Larry its a great design, Im really impressed and yes doing HSA swaps is what counts and if yours works then job done :D

Do you notice the air blowing at you (horizontally) when working in it (as opposed to vertically) or is it barely noticeable ?

I may try to get your design merged with the idea of a vertical chamber like the Monmouth version as Im after a bit of height with mine

@Slingshot, thanks again. :) I normally use it with the middle section of the cover lowered, so there is no breeze in the face at all. I do it this way to minimize the possibility of particles entering the work area. I occasionally use it with the middle section raised, to take pictures of read/write heads, for example. In those cases, it's not problematic at all, but then, I wear eye glasses. At 0.5 m/s, it's not as "windy" as a commercial unit might be, I don't know.

As far as height, I have the chamber sitting on a dolly on casters that I can wheel into position beside my desk, and it places the work area 32" off the floor, my face looking through the middle section. It's comfortable sitting in my office chair and working in the clean chamber. I don't use a drive bench but if I did, I'd want more open height to work in.
