My drive spins up, but will not recognize in Bios. Need replacement controller.

SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.8
300 Gbyte
ST3300831A
FIRMWAR E 3.01

No visible damage to board, but I'm desperate- worth the $$ to try.

Hi,

Better do a proper diagnosis before buying a board.
Try to put the terminal-output of the board here. If you dont know how to do, look in other postings on hddguru. It's all explained there.

Best regards,

Dobre

Thanks for the advice. I'll read a bit more, then post the terminal output here.

Am I correct that to post the terminal output, I need to build this,

serial_max232.gif

then connect it to the correct pins on the hdd,
and post the information as it appears in a HyperTerminal window?

Thanks!

That's pretty much it.

If you're alergic to soldering, you can get these premade on Ebay.

I'll throw it together this afternoon. If I wasn't so miserable about having lost my data, I'd say this is turning out to be alot of fun! Thanks for all the help.
