I managed to locate and purchase a secondhand hdd unit

Where were you able to find one? I have asked data recovery places who are supposed experts at finding harddrives and agreed to pay their massive fees if they did, but they could not find a replacement for my MaXline Plus II 250 GB ATA 133 HDD, I need a new board for the drive and am willing to buy a new one / pay extra fees to get it.

Code: YAR41BW0
K,M,B,D
Model: 7Y250P00628R1

I work for a data recovery firm and we do not have difficulty finding these PCBs for my customers. I think you should maybe try a different recovery firm.

There is also a white sticker on the disks PCB with a 5 digit code, similar to M6FYA. This is also another method of finding suitable replacement PCBs.

Just asking a noob question. I'm using a Maxtor diamond +9 sata 80 gb and my pcb got burned, so while looking for a replacement board i found one with U1FYA, mine is U8FYA, so do you think it can work?

By the way the board have the same code as mine, which is YAR51HWO. But there is diff in the TLA, will it affect my disk?

You only need to match version of CPU. For example, "Ardent C5-C1"

May 9th, 2007, 16:58

Board’s are interchangeable.

May 10th, 2007, 11:08

ok, so in searching this replacement board, which is the most important? The version of the CPU? Mine is Ardent C10-C1, so i should be getting that, do i need to match other stuff?

CPU is enough to match.

i found this site unofrtunetely after i ve already buy a pcb for my maxtor 6y160p00,and it dosnt work!

i own a 6y160p00,fw yar41bwo

i was sure that if i had replaced a pcb of the same hdd with the same fw it was ok.

but after i ve tried,i see that it doesn work

hdd starts to sound "bip-bip"and i hear "clik-clik"of the heads(i suppose)for about 30 seconds

after i ve tried,i ve seen that fw is the same, but after that code there are 4 letters:

in mine are k m b a,other hdd i ve bought,are k m g a

all other codes are the same!

but unfortunately it doesn work!

now i m looking for another pcb replacement...but i m not sure which are ok or not! :(

please help me...

i see that there are code fya, fyb, but i dont know how to understand which is good for my replacement!!

What was the original problem?

Re: HowTO How To replace Maxtor Calypso III board

September 5th, 2007, 15:13

original problem was a short between 2 pins of power pins(4pin)

after that hd was dead

i swap with this new pcb,hd starts, but i hear a bip bip error signal and click noise, for about 30 sec.
after that hd continues to run without noises, but it is unrecognized from win xp

bios doesnt recognize it the first time(when it emittes noises and bip-pis)but after pc restarts (without shut up powering)it is recognized as calypso...but al parameters are 0 or not specified for bios

i ve replaced hdd board with another board, not the same model 6y160poo,but 6y160moo sata hdd..160 gb,firmware is not the same...i ve already this hdd and i dont remember.

well, the error bip and clicking noise are the same!!

now,can i have another hope that maybe problem is in the pcb(maybe i have not found yet the corretc pcb?)

or is only a case...that using this other pcb noises and problems are the same??

i ve used an external case to use this hdd, this time.
after noises stop, windows recognize hdd as"maxtor c usb device"
but if i go to proprties i can t see anything!

is better that i lost any hope?!
