By any chance do you know when the Atola will have Seagate firmware support? When I purchased the Atola I was told, at the latest, that it would be added by the end of last year and I have not seen or heard of any changes.

Currently Atola Insight can automatically remove passwords off from Seagate drives. It also has a terminal which is compatible with all Seagate drives (meaning you can recover those failing 7200.11 drives).

Adding conventional firmware access was in our roadmap for 2009, however, at some point we decided to postpone it in favor of other things. When we decide what feature to add, we always try to estimate by what percentage it will increase our cusomers' success rate. While initially it seemed like a good idea to add Seagate firmware support, we found out that only a very small percentage of our customers would actually use such feature (and only for a few cases compared to others).
