Please see this thread:
wd1600aajs-00l7a0-03e01-needed-many-bad-modules-t16597.html

It is not a standard case of one or two bad modules, that I have handled before with auto repair. In this case Atola recommended further diagnosis.

Here are some points that it would be great to see Dmitry's opinion on:

1. I see the modules are copied, but are these copy 0 or 1? I only see one copy. It would be ideal to have two.
2. Is it possible to read the SA ignoring errors?
3. Can the entire tracks be saved?

Now some points and requests
As you may imagine ACE (and I guess SD) save modules are compatible with Atola modules. The format is just different. (modxxxx.mod in ace versus xxxx.m or xxxx.m~ for non readable modules in Atola). Why not incorporate a "compare and import" function whilst writing mods back via atola ;) After all, the biggest repositories and private stocks of good FW is in the ACE format.

Please other users chip in here with more Atola FW needs, I know that they are going to push this part of the product forward soon so there is a good chance our wishes will be heard.

For discussion purposes I have attached a full dump from a FW defective Drive done by Atola. Compare that to the dumps of your ACE and SD products.

Cheers..

So far of the few drives I have recovered firmware issues were present in two- both were Seagate- and are unsupported. Seagate and WD are the brands I recieve most often.

Answering your questions:

1) If I remember correctly, to read modules on WD drives we use a command that handles copies 0/1 automatically.

2), 3) This is not possible at this time

Regarding support for third-party modules: at this time the only option is to manually rename modules, which shouldn't be a big deal anyway. If anyone out there has to do that manual renaming a lot - please let me know, and we will add support for modules saved with PC3000/SD (I would need a full dump created by those tools).

Lately we've been focusing on imaging part a lot more than on any other feature - this is simply because this part of Atola Insight is used most. As I mentioned previously, we have to assign proper priorities to all those neat features, and therefore we judge mainly based on whether adding a certain feature significantly increases our customers' success rate. That's how it currently works.

Hello Dmitry,

I really can not see FW versions 0 and 1. in addition to the WD FW in the OP here is another WD. Please tell me where the two versions are to be seen.

Thanks!

Please see my previous reply. At this time there is no possibility to access copies separately.

Hello Dmitry,

Thanks but your reply was:
"1) If I remember correctly, to read modules on WD drives we use a command that handles copies 0/1 automatically"

I figured this must mean they are both read, but I guess its not the case.

I hope the FW side of the product can be beefed up soon!

Thanks
