Problem reading out WD20EARX

August 6th, 2015, 5:27

Hello,

i've got a 2TB WD Green Disk for recovery, device sometimes it's recognized by atola insight, but with size of 0Byte (LBA issue) - so i tried to change the heads in the cleanroom - and i could see some little scratches at outer tracks of the platter (don't know about the platters behind) - same problem with the new heads - 0Byte.
is there a way to read out data maybe reverse if the disk don't know how big it is? from Last LBA to 1st?

or is it just possible if the device is ok so far?

Or maybe the little scratches destroyed the new head also... thats possible.

Any ideas for disks with headcrash if they are not recognized correctly? with atola or other Hard+Software?

should work like that also here ;)

Not necessarily. Data recovery is plagued with exceptions to common rules. And furthermore with specifics to the type and amount of damage pertaining to a particular drive.

And there it is: exception.

Atola is not enough. More powerful tool is necessary for thise drives. And considering the damage, definitely have to dig deeper.

If you are doing head swaps and using Atola, then you should have a pretty good idea about powerful tools out there.
Atola is not built with a focus on firmware, rather imaging. You need tools that are able to work with firmware for difficult cases.

I hope this isn't a clients drive, with valuable data on? :-(

We can problem help you if you're willing to outsource.

PM me if interested.

Thanks for the "useful" informations ;)

I'm thinking about the pc-3000 and other things, but first i have to calculate the amount of faulty drives i'll get.

Thought i can also have access with atola a little bit deeper, if not it's OK,

and yes it's a customer drive, but he get it back from a big data recovery company, because it's too expensive, so i can try, but if not, it's OK too...
