HDDGUY,

I will buy their tool! Exactly!! As I said no matter what the bullshit they produce, I will do it. Because it's a big advantage in business to have a magic device.

Cheers

It is hilarious to read this old post knowing what the outcome of the "Universal Tool" was.

The fact they still advertise this as supporting everything is unbelievable..

@HaQue: care to share a quick recap for us who hasn't been on the ride?

Sure, they released the Flash Doctor http://www.salvationdata.com/data-recovery-equipment/flash-doctor.htm - "SD Flash Doctor - the ultimate solution for Flash Data Recovery". They say things like:
Quote:
Flash Data Recovery Doctor uses unique algorithm which removes the data mix with no need to know/use/emulate/analyze the controller.

Yet in the software there is a function to download controller algo's and also I seem to recall some stupid ratio scheme where you have points and need to upload algos to be able to download more. Bad luck I guess if all your jobs are same as other peoples and you cant have anything unique to upload..

Unlike existing similar flash data recovery products, SD Flash Data Recovery Doctor uses separated design for its flash reader: the flash adaptor is separated from the main console, which makes the adaptor add-on and replacement possible. Users do not need to purchase another console when we upgrade the flash chip support; it saves the users a lot."

When this was written there were 2 other tools, FE and PC3K. FE allows for adapter changes, older PC3K did not, so 50/50 there. Side note - they have never "upgrade the flash chip support" in any meaningful way apart from configs.

How does SD Flash Doctor Software get rid of the "data mix" and rebuild the files?

Flash Data Recovery Doctor File Structure Emulator removes the "data mix" by analyzing the logical links among the data spread in the blocks. We know that because of the data mix, files are not stored linearly on the pages but in a dynamic unknown order decided by the "wear-leveling" algorithm running in the controller chip; without the controller, the files are corrupted because we don’t know the spread order. The Flash Data Recovery Doctor Software, File Structure Emulator, with the unique algorithm, is able to chase the internal logical links of the spread data by analyzing the file information and rebuild the entire file; this "rebuild" is not realized by emulating the controller action.

What’re the advantages?

We do not need to deal with the controllers, but the flash chips only; this allows the users to:

1. Much easier and direct in flash data recovery, just do it in one two three: one, unsolder the flash chip; two, read the raw data; and three, chase and rebuild the data.

Anyone that knows about file systems and nearly all controllers whiten (scramble) the DATA with XOR to aid in memory cells not interfering with each other... that this is simply not feasible.
and the fact that there is no more "logical" links between pieces of the file than there is links between pieces of a jigsaw puzzle - the picture on the puzzle pieces in no way is related to the shape that the pieces match together with.
Also sometimes block numbers are inverted or changed and various other schemes that makes this impossible.

2. Without the born-limit of the controller emulating means, Flash Data Recovery Doctor supports all NAND flashes in its birthday, despite of what kind of controller they use.

ok, NAND flash chips are really not related to controllers and shouldn't be thought of as such.

There is an ini file which has an entry for each chip it supports. Latest version did add quite a few, but it is still only 85 chips. Soft Centre is at around 400.

There is no support for any type of power modification, no mention of WL Tripple address chips which are quite common.
No mention of this file which is absolutely required if a user wanted to add a chip, and no manual on the fields of the ini file or using a datasheet to add chips.

Many new users put in their chips and the tool cannot read them.

Database

Database with Controller "Data mixes"? Well, we DO NOT need that because we use our unique algorithm to rebuild the data directly from the flash chip, controller-independent.

LOL - yet they have one built right into the tool, typically new owners need to bug SD for weeks before getting access to the database and also the user section of forum.

Anyone new to flash recovery would have no hope with the poor manual and chinese only "tutorials" which are actually just recorded cases with no explanation... and on cases that one would probably not find in the wild.

The software has many abreviations and a myriad of settings that are not explained.

I have asked many times on SD forum to explain the fls.ini file and no response at all.

Realistacly I want my money back, if it was bought in Australia I would easily have been able to prove false advertising.

I am willing to debate this if anyone from SD doesn't agree with anything I have said.

Supported Controllers

In Flash Data Recovery doctor package we have built in a universal algorithm which enables to recover data from all flash drives with different controllers. The universal algorithm supports ALL controllers used in flash memory cards.

Vendor: All Vendors
Controller: All Controllers

Lies. No-one supports all controllers!

Supported Flash Chips

Flash Reader in SalvationDATA Flash Data Recovery doctor package reads all microchips of NAAD Flash interface specification.(The list of flash chips is not full because there are many flash chips which use the specificaition supported by the utility that are not listed here.)

They could have at least used the correct name for this spec.. I believe they mean ONFI. but no matter how forgiving you are for typo's.. this sentence is ridiculous..
basically .. we haven't fully listed them because they are not listed here..!?
