WD Green can read partition but cannot make image

September 5th, 2013, 11:46

Hi,

Actually i have a drive that sounds pretty weird like a mechanic problem, but can be detected on DC Compass and i can read the partition. The thing now is that when i start the imaging process for the partition the drive start sounding weird again.

I cannot detect the drive in HD Doctor starts freezing when load from HDD

The drive fell off a table btw.

Do you had a problem like this?

If it developed nasty sounds and reading errors following a fall off a table, it is pretty safe to assume there is some mechanical issues that need to be resolved. The more you play with it, the worse it will become. You need to correctly diagnose the problem and deal with it instead of blindly connecting to data compass and hoping it'll recover.

If you dont deal with this soon, very likely your case will develop some media damage...

Thanks for the answer.

But can a hard drive have head stack problems even if it can read some of the data? i mean, the hard drive detects the partition FAT32 and also read technical information of the drive in Data Compass (MODEL, LBA, SERIAL, ETC.)

It can have media damage. Strange how come it didn't killed the heads. Yet...

i opened the drive right now, and one of the heads i can assume that doesn't look well with my experience. So i will change heads and if i have the same problem i will tell you.

And thanks again for the advice. :D
