Yes, I think they've sullied their reputation beyond repair. And the only guys there who had half a clue (being generous here) moved on over to Dolphin. I agree, it's just an animation on the website nothing more. I think their made their money on the initial sales, then dropped em hot when people started expecting them to deliver on the free lifetime updates. It's a classic pump and dump scheme.

@Amarbir - not much to test with DC. It's just a sub-par drive imager, nothing more. It has no FW capabilities whatsoever (despite the lies they advertise).

more likely only supporting the Asian market now

not the usa market :(

Are you saying asians are willing to put up with non working products and pay for them, or that americans are too demanding in expecting products they pay for to work (properly) ?

I think SD simply prey on those new to the market and don't want to spend $13000 - $20000 on stuff just yet on a new business, put their big toe in the water to test first. MRT-Pro seems to have a similar target market.

The problem is the business fails because of the tools and the lack of purchasing the right thing the first time, and of course you get to make your name muddy in the process.

and yes, my SD tools are just about to arrive, but I have no illusions about trying them out on client HDD's.

I can honestly say that the only part of my SD tools that I'm still using is the Imitation Peli-Cases that they came in.... :D

well they dont support the usa market with any new updates

but in asia they will have new software upgrades where the usa market gets nothing

its all down to the translation of the program to english which cost more money

the hdd doctor died a longtime ago

I know of three other people including myself that would have happily translated for free. There were many updates where we had to go into the *.ini file and change individual words manually. Like many China companies, SD listened to no one, promised the world, didn't care about quality, and ignored its customers. SD is the laughing stock of the DR world today because the owner had zero common sense on how to run a business.

thatdellguy,

right, but one has to know, that the owner does not speak/understand english,
so he depends on staff translating to chinese, but they "filter" either because
of lacking english vocabulary / own understanding, or because they have their
own personal interest....

Quite some time ago I sent a chinese letter - which was responsible for some
rumors there, but after short while, it went the "old ways" again ... all contacts
left ( I was told that staff has a maximum contract - at that time 2 years,
which will never ever will be extended).

My conclusion: Useless to invest a thaught.

I was quoted $26,000 USD for the DRS-V, but i was also told it was for government use currently, and that they were working on a 'simpler' version for existing customers. I was also told that they're revamping their website, and suggested that the only way to get info from SD was via email, NOT the forum...

Not holding my breath!

For anyone wanting to know about the DataCompass, I do use mine but primarily for its "Soft Reset" functions. It is useful for imaging drives that otherwise time out due to motor problems or bad sectors. It will keep resetting the drive to allow imaging to continue.

Umm.... I hate to tell you this, but drives with motor problems don't "time out" and need a soft reset. They don't read data at all... Now you're starting to sound like a SD manual
