I have that microscope but dont use it to check PCB's. More like heads and platters for damage. It's ok for its price but dont expect a clear picture. It's really a 25x or 200x with digital 400x. So don't be fooled.

i guess no one will use it for pcb checking

high res. image with good camera will do the job more better/cheaper than this

pcb checking most of use good multimeter not more than this with good diagnose and know the problem and what to check 1st. if the pcb is dead or faulty.

Did buy one....used it for a very short while....ended up getting a proper stereo microscope, much easier to use for working and especially when re soldering...... but for taking hi magnification pics it's ok.... the stand is generally awkward at best, and you'll find yourself weighing it or taping it down and forever fiddling with the focus to get a clear pic.....

I have the 1.3MPx (mega pixel) version of this one and have been very satisfied with it. The one in the link is 5MPx. There's a sample picture of a DC jack bad solder joint on my website, if interested.

I use a similar microscope for soldering check on small SMD devices pins, example SMOOTH chips pins.

But usually i use this to check pins on smd devices:

I just got a pair of these, well similar ones. With yours do you have to bend don and be very close to the job? I need to get within a CM or 2 for it to focus. quite hard to work like that.

Yes, you need to be very close with it.
Microscopes works like that as i know.
I use it only to do alignment of IC with a lot of pins to pcb pad, then i move the microscope away to do soldering, after i check my job result again with the microscope.

I use a headband magnifier that doesn't interfere with my glasses, and it has a flip-down lens for additional magnification. Looks just like this one. At the higher magnification, I need to be about 6" (15cm) from the object--not to bad for SMD work. Check out the video on that page.

I have also glassees similat to this, watch the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Qocr3dCv48

The good thing is that they have 2 good bright lights :D
The negative thing is that i must be close 5 cm, not enough space to work...
I must choose when to look with those glasses and when to work with soldering iron (without glasses)
