I don't think I know anyone with any experience using PC-3000 willing to work for 30K/yr.

Needless to say that if you DO have experience with PC3000, your salary won't be $30k/year. This is a salary for those who DO NOT have experience with the tool, someone who we would have to fully train.

I'm not interested in the jobs, but:

I find this a bit interesting. In Sweden, $60k/y is what you get if you work "on the floor" in, for example, car manufacturing business. A DR-specialist would most likely not have below $100-130k/y.

I do not know what 401k is, but what is "1 week personal and sick days / y"? Are you not allowed to be on sick-leave for more than one week? So if I undergo a hernia surgery (which I just did, in matter of fact), I'm not allowed to recover for three weeks as the doctors suggest, I need to be back at the office after just one week?

In Australia, everyone is covered by Medicare, and everybody gets 4 weeks annual leave. Some get more.

The checkout operator at the local supermarket gets more than $30K pa.

The bloke who drives the garbage truck for the local council probably gets $50K or more.

The blue collar workers in our automobile factories get $70K (at least until they close down).

Someone who digs holes in the ground in WA gets $100K - $200K pa.

The only way you would get anyone to demean themselves for $30K in this country would be to take them on as a raw apprentice and train them.

We can argue about different parts of the world getting so much.. but it boils down to what is the general landscape in Cleveland that is relevant. Also have to remember DR is not a trade really such as doctor/lawyer.
Another point is we shouldn't compare to someone that runs/owns a lab working somewhere to this position that the candidate, if he is fairly skilled, could be earning 60K and I am guessing the company would be supplying, or helping a LOT with tools and work environment.

Would be interested to hear from other skilled and people that are employees, not owners/partners.

Also work environment possibly might be beneficial.. I know of some people that are employed in the Information Security industry and they get time and resources from employer to have own projects, go to InfoSec conferences(beer and catchup with twitter friends!) and the simple figure they get is not the only consideration.

This discussion is good to have though, as it highlights to employers that their prospects are well aware of other jobs and salaries and to be realistic.

edit- I suppose my attitude towards not caring about money is why I don't have much!

130000 USD would be nice; I'm sure that's nothing compared to what owners earn.

I don't know about Australia's heaven on earth, but in Cleveland, 30k for no experience is decent money. Keep in mind, it's a start. With Obamacare a decent health insurance is ~5k/year benefit. We pay for your sick days and personal days for up to 1 week a year, the rest is not paid. $60k for moderate experience is at least very fair for this area too. Check here: http://www.trulia.com/home_prices/Ohio/ ... -heat_map/
The average price for a house in our area is $30k. A person can make just $29k a year and be able to afford food, car, insurance, and house here.

Wow, average price for a house in my area is around $230,000 and these are very standard houses, nothing special.
maybe my daughter was right encouraging me to apply ;) can't though.

We don't mind paying 100k or even more to a pro who has experience and requires no training in HDD, SSD, Flash, Monolith and RAIDs as well as experience in SQL and VMWare recoveries. Since these type of pro's aren't available for hire, why specify 100k ceiling and confuse people? They would think that knowing PC3000 general features and 15 head swaps gonna make them 100k..

Can also mention personal circumstance might come into play. if I was unattached I may consider moving to the US for the experience alone. As I said, not everyone cares about money. Id rather work in a place I like with good people than have an extra $50 - $100 per week
