Actually the median home price there is $59,900. Still pretty cheap (about 1/4 of here) but not as cheap as you make it out to be.

it is very easy calculate salary in US . I take minimum sample salary.
For example one restored case have average price $500 (If we subtract the donor drives ).
2 cases per day and 22 work days. Income from one technician around $22 000 per month !
Some company pay 50 % it is around 10 000 per month or 120 000 per year.
But if data recovery engineer can restore data from RAIDs ! Salary will be higher around from 200 000 per year.
All depend from greedy owners.

nice math, only if world worked like that. 50% to a tech? What about ALL other expenses? Sales, support, marketing, development, research, management, design, facilities, equipment, utilities, advertisement, rent, etc. etc. etc.

So 50% for that? All those expenses take way more than 50%, unless you are 1 man shop. Tell me who is paying a data recovery tech who can only restore HDDs $120k per year? Anyone? Show me an ad please..

I buy a 600ml coke at:
BigW : $3.50
Local service Station: $4.90
Local Deli: $4.20
University exams Pie Cart: $5.50

which one is *proper* price?

I am sure if examples from around the world came in there would be more swings either side.

Seems to me it is pretty pointless throwing out examples of any pricing instead of concentrating on the offer at hand, and if you personally would accept it.

DR Labs are all not the same, they have different amounts of cases coming in, different expenses, different economic factors.

IMHO, anyone who doesn't start his own DR outfit, that can earn $22,000 per month is crazy.

Hello ! I will try to explain some things.
Seagate data recovery service have salary for some valuable workers and developers from 80 to 150 K per year. Regular data recovery engineers who can only replace heads and do basic things have only $50 K
I know some small company who pay wage from 80K and more.
Ok So regular data recovery service it is usually :
couple owners, many sales persons, web designer, accountant, they of course spend money for outsourcing or hire people for some work, and only 1 or 2 technicians !

We use another smarter and better service team organization.
1 owner (he is data recovery engineer also manager and accountant),
1 or two persons, like sales & case manager
and 3 technicians !!!
We pay wage : 100 - 120K per year for our technicians + car benefits+ cellphone expenses +bus pass + medical, dental+ part payment of rent apartment $300-600 and for some stuff more. It is all company expenses.

Let’s calculate for this smart basic data Recovery Company.

First will calculate income:
1 owner (he is data recovery engineer or IT guy).
1 (or two) sales person & case manager
3 engineers !!!

Every engineer can restore average 2-3 cases per day, or may be more.
Price for each cases from $400 to 1400 minus donor drive = $500 (average)
(Actually, donor drives cost for us from $0 to $50 because we use cheap partner share stock of donors in Canada and US).
$500 x 3 per day =$1500. (one technician per day)
$1500 x 3 engineers = $4500 per day
$4500 x 22 workday 99 000 per month.
Worth mention also what we have plus 5-8 RAIDS per month, 10-20 flash USB , CF drives,
Also and we sell donor drives on EBay. it is extra money. In addition, we have extra money from other interesting sources. It is also good income.

So go next, our expenses:
Sales – we have only one sales person salary 55 000 per year + % from finished cases
Support – we use cheap support from Russia, India, China.
Google, Marketing, development – Only lazy people pay huge amount for google AdWords. We use google, but we use it for free. We use free google advertisement like free coupons from AdWords Express or flat rate $200 for unlimited clicks per month from google partners. And more more….
Research – we have all what we need for research. Our engineers research by self some tools and data recovery methods. Also cheap, to buy or get it from china from Seagate manufacture or from WD. Easy to find service manuals for hard drives. Actually many good Russian people can share for free or for some money methods and tools how to do data recovery in difficult cases.
But it is interesting that the engineers of the United States and Canada do not want to share the experience but are very eager to them helps especially for free.
Management, design - we hire some people in Russia and Ukraine. It is also cheap.
Equipment, utilities, - we use standard and our best data recovery tools (see our web). Also we use cheap solution for cheap cases. We pay good money for real things.
Advertisement – we use local free AD and it is very new method in AD, so people know us wery well.
Rent - $3000 per month. 2 level office + garage + water + heat
Car – credit for one $700 per month.
Free lunch and coffee for office. And more $1000
Receiving centers 3 places : - $1000 (Regus company)
Expences for example :
3000(rent)+1400( 2 cars)+$300 GAS+1000(food for office) +500(AD)+100(Web development) +500 research.+ 1000 receiving centers + 1000 other expenses = average $10 000 (per month)
Owner salary: 14 000 (per month)
Sales man salary: 10 000 (per month)
Engeneers salary 10 000 x 3 = 30 000
Ok now calculate whole sum: $ 99 000 – 10 000 (expenses) - $14000(owner salary)-$10000 (sales person)-$30000 (engineers).
= 35 000 it is money that remained. Really their remains even more !!!!
Taxes. It is another long story to explain. Ask your accountant please how to optimize your taxes.

So salary data recovery engineer should be : 10 000 per month it is around 120K per year.

NOW EVERYONE TELL ME - WHAT REASON DO NOT PAY GOOD WAGES A GOOD ENGINEER ?

One right off the top of my head is marketing/advertising. Your cost are quite low.
One other good reason why you in your case you could offset these costs is due to the type of case volume you receive in the door. Others may not be as lucky. When you couple this with a high advertising cost, then salaries can't be as high as engineers would like.

Adwords from what I know in USA, especially in big cities, are very costly.

This is the most epic shit I've seen - hands down. I love how precise you were with 22k. It's not 20k, its 22K!!!!
If you have applied for any of DR companies on this forum, or you work for a DR company and make less than 22K, know this - YOU ARE BAT SHIT CRAZY

I am not entirely sure what you mean by this. Are you saying that if I accepted a position, and I was not getting around $22,000 per month, I shouldn't be accepting? I don't know ANY DR Company in AU that would be paying a 1/4 of a mil for regular DR work.

My point was.. if you are making a regular Salary, and by that I mean a salary that I am guessing at( knowing the landscape in AU), why would it sit pretty with you to consistently have your company banking around $35,000 per month when the actual team is rather small?

The math was given to show that per month left over after everything, actually boasting more. Questions might be things like are the customers being charged quite high, are some expenses left out that make the figures better looking, and does comparing one company to another really hold up.

I am not sure about "the most epic shit ever" as this discussion is a few opinions on a forum, about a situation that involves the hirer and prospective employee only, and everything we say is a grain of salt deal.

@HaQue, I think flashpro was questioning your use of a precise figure of $22K rather than a round number.

The answer is in an earlier post:

Sorry it didn't go null although you really tried. We already got everyone we needed. Perhaps applicants could decide for themselves if salary offered is fair or not.
