Hello guys,

I have a firmware corruption problem on a Western Digital HD. I need a working firmware in order to make it work again and access the data on it.
I'd really appreciate it if someone could upload the firmware for WD1600JS-55NCB1. It's a Black I hard drive according to Salvation Data classification.
P-S: a PCB close to: DSBHCT2AH would be great too

Thank you very much

I dont want to sound rude, but I'm afraid you don't know what you're doing.
If data is important then you should stop playing with drive's firmware and consult someone who knows what to do.

Hard drives are not mobile phones to flash their firmware and make them work again. It is a little more complicated than that.
If you post symptoms of the drive then maybe someone will help you, starting by advising you whether this is DIY possible or not.

Another member on the SD forum already gave you the firmware. If you can't locate a PCB for this common hard drive it might be time to quit the DR business. Why post this in the DFL section?

Sorry, I meant DCM*. I have a brain condition, not easy to live with a permanent Encephalitis, makes it hard for me to focus continuously. Thank you for your replies. Won't post in the wrong section again. Promise.

Sorry to hear about your condition and I wish you all the best.

However, DCM is not directly related to PCB. You need to know what you're after.

I insist, it would be better if you describe the drive's symptom and perhaps you dont need to flash any firmware at all.

Whatever you're after, good luck!

The symptoms:
-clicking sound (6 continuous clicks followed by 3 clicks after a few seconds) and drive could not be read at all. I performed an AUTOREPAIR under FW Defect Scan using HD Doctor and a perfect donor's FW. Tried to connect the HD to a write blocker afterwards: the data is still inaccessible.

The clicking sound is very similar to the one found on the "wd_loud_clicking.mp3" found on this page: http://files.hddguru.com/viewer_content ... ng%20Noise

Then, as suspected, there is nothing wrong with the firmware, but most likely an internal fault, ie. bad heads.

I am not familiar with SD tools, so I do not know if what you did was a good idea or not. I think that writing complete fw from a donor to a clicking patient was not a very good idea, though.

There is a 1% chance that your problem is with your PCB, since your drive is a Hawk.

I just took a firmware from a "Perfect Donor" (a perfectly working HD with the same Model, the same PCB number and a very similar DCM), and used HD Doctor to Autorepair the defective drive. What it does is trying to figure out the faulty FW modules and replace them with compatible ones from the donor. After performing the Autorepair, I still get Read errors and clicking sounds, so most likely, Northwind's diagnosis is right and I thank him btw.

Thanks for posting the results. It is always helpful to know results of tests, successful or not.
