Post subject:  Imaging of SA locked drives.

There are some SA locked WD drives which do not allow head map as is.

This is about a case that was solved 2 months ago WD20NMVW-11EDZS7
8 heads and one of the head was totally AMNF

Process used to recover data without a transplant
1)USB board changed to SATA
2)Backed Up ROM
3)Bypass SA
4)Relo was full, cleared it, unlocked SA in 02 permanently and did a slow read fix(can omit this at this step too ie the slow read fix)
5)Reflashed original ROM
6)Connect to DDI, Did a head map
7)Media test showed one head gone
8)Disabled that head in the DDI config.
9)Connected Drive to DFL, repatched 02 so now the SA is locked again, did Slow read fix.
10)NOW drive is again sa locked but DDI can work with the head map and disengage the faulty head while recovering the data from others at full speed.

Is there any way I can fix the AMNF error logically.. Have not tried to run the translator...Data is dispatched, can afford to experiment.

Hope some one finds this useful

Thanks

I guess that this means that DFL doesn't image and decrypt on the fly, eh? Based on the tools that you have available, I guess this is the best process without having a PC3000 system.

As for dealing with the one dead head, you likely won't do much without changing the heads.

Hi, No DFL SRP that I have is just for FW.May be the person who has the Imager by DFL can comment more whether decrypt on the fly is available.....THIS DRIVE IS SA Lock + SED...the drive is giving data with original unlocked 02 where only slow read fix is done by executing slow read fix command...the moment one unlocks the SA, data is encrypted...:D It gives decrypted data over the SATA board with the SA locked....So the MCU is in charge of decryption and encryption process....Any way i can do a slow read fix + SA unlock without tampering with the bits/flags that take charge of MCU based encryption?.... DDI works good with such cases.....I am looking for some class 100 or class 10 FFUs....lets see how far I go with the build. I have a deep background of CAD work and have made a DIY CNC of C3 grade in past.So i believe I can surely do a DIY laminar flow.

Pray for me :)

To add, I wrote this case study after solving one more case today where only 200Gigs of data is required by a photographer client. Job finalized in 111.111USD (what a figure)
This client of mine is 21 year old photographer who did some corporate shoot of a rest-0-bar/grill and now his name and repute is in jeopardy.

Just confirmed with DFL....the DDP imager by them does one click decryption.

DDP can image USB-SATA drives and decrypt on the fly
and decrypt then image options.

It is a very powerful tool... :)
