 Post subject: seagate: 0 capacity

Hi,

I have Seagate barracuda 7200.12 model: ST3500418AS. I connect to PC. It recognizes as 0 capacity. Then, i connect to imagery. after scan, it reports correct model and serial number but 0 capacity. what problem this hard drive has?

Seems like the usual bug : translator violation...
Easy with the correct tools or knowledge !

7200.12 have NRG defect list. If you do not know what you are doing, or have no respectable tools for the job, you should not even try it.

What would be the command to regen translator taking in account the NRG-List ? In other words, what would be the correct command to regen translator on a 7200.12 without damaging it further ?


Good question. I suspect this is done using the format command with FormatOpts = 6. But I'm not sure right now. Start by backing up all defects lists ;)
