I have one of those, but with 500 GB.
It's F3 Arch :

http://malthus.zapto.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=193

For 7200.11 (F3 Arch) and newer Seagate drives :

Bits per second - 38400
Data Bits - 8
Parity - None
Stop Bits - 1
Flow Control - None

hi,

I have usb to ttl serial. first I install driver then connect usb to ttl to PC. I go to device manager. usb to serial comm port (comm 5) appears. Then I connect to serial pin on hard drive. I start putty. when i press control+z, prompt does not appear. I cannot communicate with the drive. Can you tell me I do something wrong?

regards,

Start by trying with Hyperterminal.
Maybe you have swapped TR/RX ?
Are you using the same power supply power on the drive and the adaptor ? If NOT you will need to plug Ground too.
Did you check the settings ?
When you power on the drive with the terminal already connected can you see some output on terminal ?

Hi,

Thanks. I will try again.

Hi,

Usb to ttl adapter works. The result is in the attached file. Firstly, I must tell you some background. When I turn on power supply, the drive spins for a while then stops spinning. After that I cannot communicate via terminal program(putty) any more.

Thanks.

You cant communicate... Does this mean that Control+R does not give Online Mode, and Control+Z does not give F3 T> prompt(if it is an F3 drive)?

Terminal is working as it should.
Drive is damaged as expected.
Do you need the data from the drive or what are you trying to do ?

I need the data from it. Is it possible? If yes, how? Thanks.
