Hello folks,
I customer from me forgot his ATA password and instructed me to bypass/remove it.
It is a Seagate Momentus 5400.3 2,5" SATA HDD.

Unfortunatelly there are some problems:
I tried several hardware plattforms and USB to SATA converters but tools like ATAPWD or MHDD are not able to detect the hard disk.
I also tried under linux the command:
Code:
sudo hdparm --user-master m --security-unlock <Seagate + 25 spaces> /dev/sdg
and also
Code:
sudo hdparm --user-master m --security-unlock $(printf 'Seagate                         ' | tr '1234567890qwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnm' '\2-\13\20-\31\36-\46\54-\62') /dev/sdg
but with no success.

What can I also try and why the tools are not able to detect this drive?

greetings
White

Update:
I read that there is a tool called "ArchosUnlock.exe" that creates a live boot disk with a patched linux kernel.
Does anyone know where I can download this tool?
greetings

You need to read "Vendor track" from HDD's SA and wipe a sector with password.
Now way to fix it up via linux or other software methods beside profesisonal DR tool (PC3K/MRT/DFL/other).
TTL could also be a solution, but little bit more tricky. Easiest to way to find a guy who has professional tool around your area and ask for password removal.
This is 5-min job if you know how to crack it. I could recommend you 2-3 good places in Germany, email me.

Good luck swapping platters with those tools...

There is one unbreakable rule for DR tools; if it's chinese, it ain't a tool.
