Hi,

I am trying to recover data from ST1000DM003 Seagate 1tb HDD but I am confused to what the problem could be.

The HDD spins fine and without any unusual noises.
Windows Assigns the letter - but no other information.
Disk Management Shows the HDD sometimes but other times would just keep loading until HDD switched off.

TestDisk - finds no partitions.

Linux - the drive shows as unknown partition but after few minutes it will show no media

Any suggestions?

Most likely a firmware problem, exacerbated by media issues.

Also a weak or suspect read/write head is common on these in our experience.

The only sensible suggestion I can make is to seek pro assistance. Sure it’ll cost you, but it’s your call as to whether the data is important enough to you.

Feel free to drop me a PM or email, or if you want somebody closer try John at Cheadle Data Recovery.
