Reballing BGA?

March 27th, 2018, 9:34

This is most likely a stupid question, but since there's no manual anywhere, I have to ask: is it required to reball the BGA-chips prior using them in the adapters? (More specifically, the eMMC-adapters)

I got hold of two scrapped Android-phones, both using eMMC, but nothing shows up when I connect them to the adapter hooked up to the SD-port. There is ofcourse a possibility I damaged the chips whilst removing them using the IR-station, but other than that I fail hard to understand why nothing happens with the adapters.

No need. Use without reball. Just clean the chip very good. If you not clean enough it could be not recognized. Also there is a chance that you damage the chip.

Thanks. I'm aware of that the chips could have been damaged, but I have to try everything I can before scrapping them.

It's way harder than I thought to get dead devices to practice on. People are very very unwilling to donate their dead phones / pen drives etc, even if I assure them I only want to practise and learn on them. I wish I had a truckload of dead devices. These two phones are the first one I got hold of since november last year. Too long time between the cases = I forget everything I learned last time, and have to start all over again.

And that sucks.

It’s true, good adapter/reader doesn’t need Re-balling
