You tried to short channel and stuff to get to terminal? Maybe heads are fine and module/modules have bad sectors. |

Tip: How to identify the Read Channel test points: http://www.hddoracle.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=123 Isn't this one of those models with a locked terminal? |

I believe it may be terminal locked, the terminal log should provide more info when doing ctrl z. its interesting to note your getting ID and serial number, just capacity is incorrect. |

The ID and S/N are coming from the ROM, you'd see that even if you only had the PCB connected. The 3.86Gb is a default capacity given when the drive cannot read the SA at all. Which is usually either bad heads, non-native PCB (ROM) or damaged SA. Given that that drive spins down, then it's almost certainly at least one bad head. My first line of attack would be to microscopically examine the head sliders for contamination, I would bet that at least one would be contaminated with "platter dust" scraped from the surface. For a partial recovery you could try disabling that head in ROM. For example if H3 is bad then change head map from 000102030405 to 000102020405. Good luck! |
