Hello Everyone,
I need some assistance from the experienced members here on what problem this hard drive sound indicates?

This is a Samsung 500GB , Model HD502HI. My computer is not detecting it ... it may be detected incidentally but then disappears. One time it started working as well how ever when trying to copy data to my other hard disk this one moved and then stopped working again. I haven't opened the hard drive yet. There is a lot of data which is important on this drive however if i loose it then most likely will get over it in a few day... but I cannot afford a large bill as my finances are kaput.

I am attaching the sound file with the post ..... It actually clicks for a few seconds then goes smooth, platter continues to spin ok without any further clicks(from the sound of it and does not stops).

I am trying to figure out from the sound of it ... if it is any one of the following:
- Head is stuck on the platter
- Head is not even mounting on the platter i.e. not moving from parked position
- Some physical object is potentially blocking the head
- or none of the above ... then what else

I am trying to get some direction so that i have all the necessary resources (videos,, articles, where can I procure the hardware if needed) ready before attempting anything. I can assemble and reassemble my laptop ...previously changed it screen, hinges, WiFi antenna and cleaned the fan and reassembled it.

Here is a link to the sound file: https://www.sendspace.com/file/s1ntob

I`ll appreciate you feedback in this regard.

Thanks In advance.

Sounds like that drive probably needs a professional service procedure in a cleanroom not a DIY homework. Sorry ...

Without seeing terminal log I'd suppose bad heads and possibly surface defects.

Don't do that. You can only make things worse, nothing else.
If you can't afford DR services now, just leave the drive on a shelf waiting. This job doesn't look like DIY.
