How much did the client pay for this data recovery?
To me, youse all deserve every penny! Even when other jobs are not quite as successful.

I'm about to go do a head swap of a WD Black drive for a friend of mine (one who is still paying too). I'm hoping to be having a moment like this in about 15min!

datamedics, I have a place for teachers, students, and whosoever else; would you be interested in explaining the difference between success with recovery on perfectly working hard-drives and "success" with "recovery" on hard-drives with bad sectors?
In another thread:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=31513
you and others gave excellent information which gave me lots of clarity!

It is for this very reason that we won't even assess a drive without the client pre-approving our minimum price. So, in simple cases like this, we know that we will get paid for our time.

We are going to implement this soon, getting too many time wasters :-(

Wasting too much time assessing drives that clients have no intention of paying for recovery on, that could be better spent on genuine cases.

We try to keep our prices as competitive as possible, but these time wasters are costing us engineer time (=money) which pushes up the average cost/case which strikes us as being unfair to the genuine clients.

Well ,
In India its complete nonsense .Here is my 2 cents to work in this country in DR business .

1 : If you get 100 drives and you quote a customer a pricing without showing him his data .Chances are as high as 75% rejection of jobs .This is too high we cannot survive like this .If we take the data out [ Assuming its not a HSA swap case ] might be logical/semi physical and physical case head stuck etc and then quote then it would be 75% approval and 25% rejections .You guys have just no idea how difficult its to work in india .

PS : In this week i got a case its a free play with one system head gone .I managed to get the drive on its feet and clone all heads expect head no 01 [ Second system head ] . After i did the job i quoted Rs :10,800 approx 175 USD .Case rejected you know what the clint said " he says he does not mind me paying Rs :250/- approx usd 3 and a additional Rs :100/- for data recovery lol use 1.25 . He says he will get it done from canada by his friend who works in seagate lol another Bull#@$@#$@

I can only imagine how difficult it must be work work in such challenging financial situations :-(

Maybe I should thank my lucky stars that we still get 75% of cases approved :-)

Bhai Jan:
don't waste your time for people like these.

minimum price must be agreed for drives with physical problems.

in any circumstances, is there any job at all you except this price ?
If so you're really in trouble, but if not, you don't quote after examination, you tell the client that he has to agree a minimum price before you except the job, in this way, you avoiding jobs that they are a waste of time.

Amarbir, I can appreciate that you get clients who turn down your quotes which are more than reasonable. However, you aren't doing yourself any favors by not setting a minimum price and telling your clients that if it isn't worth that much, there is absolutely no point in wasting their time bringing it to you or your time looking at it.
