wondering if there are dr firm able to do data recovery for ST8000AS0002 archive drives.

My drive would usually do random chirps since it was bought so I thought it was just normal. It hasn't had much use but over the years I've put stuff on it as a cold storage backup solution. I filled it up with a lot of stuff then forgot about it for a few months with the pc turned off for a while.

When I decided to get something off it was all going great. Chirp was there as usual, hddsentinel was reporting 100% all normal. all of a sudden i heard this loud noise coming from the drive so i immediately shutdown the computer. Turned on the computer and the hard drive would spin up but is now clicking and then the hdd would spin down. Haven't decided to power it up any more to avoid further damage.

The big question is if its a heads problems, what are the chances or successes pro's here have in successfully retrieving data from these drives?

the drives pn 1na17z-002

thanks in advance.

we have done 1 in the past but it was not a physical problem, I think any decent company can deal with the physical problem of this drive but am not sure whether they will be able to deal with Firmware if there is any problem with that.
