should i buy a NAS from Synology/QNAP or 1 desktop pc

Thanks for taking the time to come here.

i need you input

i have bought four 6TB WD blue drives from amazon (new condition)

the price was very good (i think)

99 x 4 dolars + 60 dolars shipping and tax fees

i was thinking of using a raid1 setup with a simple 2 bay NAS (6tb volume)

but we know that blue drives aren't designed to work on a server 24x7.

so i ask you guys should i make a computer with a raid1 configuration on linux and use it as a server or should i buy a pre built NAS on this case?

for now i want to be able to access this server only on my home network

thank you

Buy a Synology. I've had experience with them all, and all I use now is Synology.

I'm confused, why?

I find all of those to be less than 'purely' reliable.

They sometimes develop permission problems with data stored on them such that you can't delete folders, etc.

They're SLOW AS ALL F!

They are using 10GbE now ... but personally, once I iron out the bugs in FreeNAS -- I'm much more optimistic that FN will be very good.

At minimum, it's ZFS ... whereas with

Synology uses BtrFS as their 'advanced' array algo
QNAP -- will let you use ZFS ... if you buy their unit for 7000 ? :)

My 2c
or 1c ...
