The future of data recovery

Hi All,

I am new on the forum and started with big question
What is the future of data recovery?
Nidec company has published a report showing a huge decline in HDD disc sales. We still have ssd disks but the sales of laptops and PCs are falling. More and more people use smartphones and store data in the cloud. What do you think about it? Have you observed a smaller number of clients in your companies? What should our industry focus on now?

we should motivate them to manufactured, fail hard drives like seagate and wd SPZX.

Data recovery service varies widely depending on the region of the world.
In some parts of the world, the market is very competitive and saturated. In emerging markets not as much, but many of them are low income still, which makes it difficult.

I'd really appreciate hearing from a few of the larger businesses here -- even if they had to use an alter-ego ... but it'd be great to know if there's 'rationale' in working on 'business development' in this market ... which may be 'half-life-ing out' as devices with spinning drives die and get replaced by those with SSDs.

Anyone ..?

My guess though:

more -- Cost of Acquisition (new customers)
lower -- Profit per recovery
more -- competition
lower -- recoveries per month ...
more -- recoveries on devices which aren't recoverable.


BUT, I hope I'm wrong. I'll let you guys know more when I know more.

ISTM that data recovery may be hitting a wall.

What do you do with head faults in helium drives?

How long before the new firmware architectures will be cracked, if ever?

Will the trend toward encryption render SSDs inaccessible?

Hard drives are here to stay.

as for ssd hard drive yeah they might fast.

but they one big desing fault they are only going to read and write before it fails
for good.
then the data will be gone total

The ONLY reason that SSDs are supposedly going to make people lose data is that they STILL do not practice proper backup routines. If they did, it wouldn't matter how bad their disks were, hell... they could even use Seagate.

The future of data recovery is that you would pay some price to Google, Facebook or Microsoft, and the would give you back all of your data they've been stealing from you over the years.

As someone said, it depend on region. Here, most of my customer doesn't want to hear about cloud (and it's not question of price, they don't trust GAFA), they want their data at home.
