Grey market Samsung SSD Frustration

August 17th, 2020, 20:27

So I purchased one of each 2TB and 4TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD on Newegg from seller 3C Expert. The 2TB failed shortly after the return period, so I tried to do a warranty claim with Samsung, only to find the warranty was only good for Australia, not USA where I purchased it. So I checked the 4TB only to find the warranty was only good for Korea. WTF! I have initiated a replacement for the 2TB with 3C Expert and was told they would honor the warranty and replace it, but have now requested a full refund, along with a refund for the 4TB with return shipping at the seller’s expense. I will see how that goes, but I feel so deceived. Samsung support calls it “a grey market product” because it was imported from another country and not meant to be sold in the USA. I will not buy from 3C Expert on Newegg again, that is for sure.

What really gets me is that this is holding up my new computer build from being complete and usable :(

yep if you dont buy your hard drive from Samsung direct in the usa.
and buy it from another country.

your warranty can only be used where you purchased it from.

same goes with amazon you buy it from them direct your warranty
is with amazon and not samsung.

I ended up returning both drives from the seller on Newegg and getting a full refund. I then ordered them on Amazon (Amazon was the seller, not 3rd party), and those are warrantied in the US, so I am good now.
