Why do people keep buying Crapple's products? This is a truly repugnant company with reprehensible business practices that make it one of the worst, if not the worst, examples of American capitalism. Just watch Louis Rossman's videos for even more horror stories.

To me, Apple was already a scummy company as far back as the Apple II days. The only good thing about the company was Steve Wozniak.

Stumbled on one if his videos yesterday in which he rants about soldered on SSD's in $3000 machines which indeed is quite f*cking ridiculous. He argues it's a wear part which will probably need replacement during expected computer lifetime and should therefor be easily replaceable. He's right about this of course. Side note: In his videos he always leaves me with the impression he accidentally fixes stuff. Please be careful, I am not saying he doesn't know what he's doing, he's doing a lot and he almost seems to sort of casually fix the device on his desk. Very entertaining.

YT algorithm then suggested a Jessa Jones video, which was a joy to watch and in which she repairs an iPhone that Apple geniuses referred to DriveSavers who quoted $3500 for data recovery while all the phone needed was a screen-replacement.

He's learnt autodidactically, he knows how and why the devices he works are doing what they're doing extremely well. For comparison find one of his old USB pen drive data recovery videos from when he was in the first shop in NY. It's almost painful to watch him struggle with a simple connector replacement.

I think Jessa takes personal pleasure in exposing Drivesavers, there was some beef a few years back about a particular fix that Drivesavers claim to have discovered and made big fuss about it on linus tech tips for exposure, when it was actually community work involving Ipadrehab.

BTW, I didn't mean what I said about Louis as criticism, it's just my personal impression, no judgement. I like watching Louis, a guy sitting in a chair and ranting ... How can you not love a guy that describes himself like that.

It was the difference in his presenting style I was highlighting - you can tell when he's essentially switched off, is on autopilot doing the repairs as a little showboating for the channel. As soon as something outside of his comfort zone comes up it brings him back to Earth with a bump with the rest of us.

I often wonder about the extent of any formal training he may have had, and how he would fare without schematics, especially when troubleshooting an unfamiliar device.

A friend who used to work as an electronics repair tech was very good at what he did, often repairing complex PCBs that the engineers had given up on. However, he understood very little about the theory side of things. Instead, he got to know the PCBs and how to identify the faults by comparing them against working PCBs. He also taught himself to use a logic analyser which helped him track down MCU related faults.

Judging by the video I mentioned, about as well as a fish out of water - at least back then. It's the same on a number of popular high subscriber youtube repair channels, even I can spot them.

I bought up Sorin and Paul as exceptions to this and you can see that from the difference in diagnosis methodology, but they are lacking the entertainment value to a degree and channel subscribers as a result.
