Hello all,

I am new to this forum and hope that maybe you can give some insight as to the business side of data recovery. I have been in IT for about 18 years and am tired of the corporate world. I am looking to either start my own business or suplemnet my income so I don't have to fear the corporate climates as much. Am I barking up the wrong tree here.

I know all these questions will be subjective but consider a small operation that does web advertising, local shops, etc..

Is it lucrative?
How many drives per month would one expect?
What is the average time spent on a recovery?
Do you do it full time or part time?
Do you have a clean-bench?
What is the % of sucessful recoveries?
How comeptive is it? (I noticed pricess from $200 - $3,000)
What is a realistic recovery price?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I guess the business aspects are somewhat to close and personal to answer. It's almost like asking what your salary is. I am sorry for if I came across that way.

Can someone give reasonable ball parks +-50%

IE : a small 2 man shop can handle 5 - 10 drives per week
IE: I heard of a guy making $85,000 per year in his spare time repairing drives
IE : The hours are long
IE : I do it full time and am able to put my kids through college
IE : I can't stand this business and am now looking to repair vacumes.

thanks,
