Everyone knows that all hard drives usually come in an antistatic silver bag. But, where do you purchase those hard clear plastic carriers (clamshells) that some companies use? I can't find them anywhere. Thanks.

I would love to get some of those also, if someone will let us know.

On a related note, does anyone have an elegant, or even a passable solution for storing and organizing thousands of donor drives? I considered blueprint drawers, but thought that was a bit overkill. I've come across packing foam that will hold 20 or so, but it's really hard to get without buying 20 drives...

I have plenty of 20 hdd foams, but using it for packaging.
I can save some (5-10)pieces in return for bubble wrap or foam layers.

I store my drives in boxes, 20 pieces per box.

I would also like to see a setup for a lot of donors.

I use (in the UK) what is called the "really useful box" - they come in varying sizes, one of which comfortably holds (upright) about 60 drives.

Bit of a schlepp to pick up if you're disabled, but efficient use of space, very durable, and very stackable.

Trouble is, the drive you needs is always in the bottom box...

Hi,

I packed up rarely used and realy bad drives into boxes and use steel drawer cabinet to store the frequently used ones. It has 5 drawers, each one can hold 95 normal sized 3.5" drives. really good, but costs a lot indeed.
Foam sucks I can tell U :) This cabinet is ~70x70x80 cm and can hold at ~500 drives, and even more slim drives.
500/20=25 foam thing would be needed, that will occupy a smaller room, not to mention the work u have to do when looking for something.

I use vertical shelfs of 2m high and 12cm large that can take up to 72 drives each. So I a few of those together and that's a cheap and useful solution.
