Can I reset S.M.A.R.T. UltraDMA CRC Error Count ?

February 7th, 2020, 7:20

Hi,

I have a HGST HDS724040ALE640 disk which has been in a desktop server for a while but at one point it stopped working suddenly.
After investigation it turned out the sata connector was broken and caused the issue. The cable was replace and everything worked flawlessly since.

Now I want to use this disk in a Dell R720xd server but the led is flashing red and I started to investigate. It's caused by a bad S.M.A.R.T. health report.

Apparently the "UltraDMA CRC Error Count" is extremely high and I'm pretty sure this is caused by the bad sata connector in the past. But the disk itself is fine. I even did a 10x long self test in a row (using the "smartctl -t long /dev/sda" command) and all tests finished without any error at all.

Is it possible to reset the S.M.A.R.T. UltraDMA CRC Error Count value of this disk ?
I don't have expensive equipement for disk repair but maybe this can be done in software?
