Post subject:  Cloning and resizing partitions software

Hi

I am having some trouble cloning drives (I have a job to replace mechanic drives for SSD on several PC's).
I need that the software also resize the partitions.
I have tried Drive Clone and Easeus TODO backup, but the clones faill to boot.
Do you guys have another ideas that work?
Thanks

Have a look at "R-Drive Image", you can trial it for 30 days:

http://www.drive-image.com/

and it is made by the same company as R-Studio.

I generally use Paragon hard disk manager in our shop. Great support specific to shrinking data to transfer to SSD's included.

I use Paragon Migrate Disk to SSD for that and it works great. Tried many other programs with little success. And it's very inexpensive.

Thanks Guys.

I will test those too.
You don't have problems with 4k alignments, to be windows 7 or windows 8?

It handles Win7 and 8-8.1 fine. Don't know if it handles 4k segment disks but I would assume so. I just slave the customer's drive to my Win7 x86 PC and migrate to the customer's SSD using eSATA drive docks.

If clone fails to boot, did you check with something like diskpart that partition is active and also, in windows after I image with image.exe, I need to write the boot files with something like :

Code:
c:\Windows\System32\bcdboot c:\Windows

replace c: with the target drive... mine is typically D: during imaging, but reverts to c: once the system is up and running

copying 4k to 4k no problem: only. Must be same.

ISTM that most SSD manufacturers have free data migration software.

Samsung Data Migration Software:

Intel Data Migration Software:

SanDisk SSD Conversion Kit:

"The SanDisk SSD Conversion Kit also comes with convenient data-migration software ..."

Do any of these migration tools work without problems when working with Linux, say Ubuntu OS, for example?

R-Drive Image can. So can the Drive Copy wizard in R-Studio.

Damn, there are things that take out from serious....

I'm now trying a PC from the same client.

Againm tested with Drive Clone (cloned but can't boot), Drive Image says that it can copy, Easeus TODO backup clone, but can't boot... Paragon SSD says it can«t support OS

I have tried using a USB cady for destination and doing the clone on my PC (with a "master" and "slave" <SATA doesn't have this but for understanding>).
Now I'm using the client's PC with the SSD connected directly and doing the clone using the "original" OS.

It should be a damn simple thing and it's getting me MAD....

Post subject:  Re: Cloning and resizing partitions software

why don't you resize the partitions down to small enough first, and once the partition will fit on the SSD, clone the partition only, then make sure it is bootable.
problem might be the condition the file system is in, will not resize down.

Don't really have enough info though, this looks like a job that you just "play with" until you find something that works

What is the OS? 32/64-bit? Tried with Secure Boot disabled?

Hi

So, my last option was to clone on the client's PC to the SSD attached with Easeus TODO.
And it worked...
Weird....

+1 to Paragon SSD Migration tool.

It's become my go to software for this purpose and I've never had it fail me yet.

Hi
Use acronis true image
You basically install it on machine you are migrating drive on or create a bootable cd
Create image file to external drive
Replace drive on machine
Boot machine from cd acronis media
Apply image to new drive, you will have option to rest partition size

Works every time
Good luck
