How to make a usb with this program?

December 8th, 2015, 9:20

Hi,

I can't say how many hours I have burned on this issue before I finally gave up.

I have a laptop with no cd drive and I need to use MHDD on a bootable memory stick.

As far as I can see, the only way to do this is to use Magic-Boot-Disk and burn it unto this usb.

I have tried: RUFUS, Ultra Iso, Power Iso, Iso to Usb, Win Iso and some other programs- Nothing.

Some say they cant burn,, some say they did but the laptop doesn't recognize anything.

I'm really despairing here, what am I doping wrong?

Thank you very much.

Even if you did prepare the bootable memory stick correctly your laptop probably has a UEFI bios. Some changes would have to be made to boot from usb. If you manage to work that one out then you would still have to set the sata port to compatibility/ide mode, otherwise Mhdd probably won't see the hard drive, and that would only be if your bios supports it. You would do well to follow the advice given previously.

Create a bootable USB drive. Then copy the individual MHDD files to an MHDD directory.

I'm with dick on this one. It's probably your UEFI blocking it. Try turning off Secure boot, and enable legacy boot if the option is available in your BIOS.

I was going to say what Jared said. But I had the same issue with some new laptops and was a little while before I figured it out.

in google, just type in "boot from usb" and the model of your laptop and someone else would more than likely had the same question, and exact steps would have been given.

Sometimes you need to turn off, or disable security, then save changes, reboot, go back into the bios and continue to turn of secure boot, and enable legacy boot. In one of them I had to add a "boot device"

Thank you guys very much(!), after literally 8-9 weeks of on and off attempts, each taking about 2 (sometimes 3) hours - you have finally solved it.

Arghhh, I should have figured it out myself.
It was a combination of seeing my attempt at a separate booting and manual copying failing- I just assumed it is the wrong way.
Now after tweaking the BIOS and making a proper bootable USB- it is finally there (along with mixed feelings of relief and frustration).

THANK YOU GUYS VERY VERY MUCH!

Great! I experienced your frustration too. The first time I met this issue, I was trying to use a bootable CD, then made a DVD, then a USB. I was blaming the media, when it was just settings in the newer BIOS.

I would also very much like to know how to create a bootable USB with MHDD. Removing a drive, connecting to a desktop system, and booting from CD is time consuming. Additionally, CD drives are rapidly becoming relics of the past.

Surely someone has figured this out?

I've tried the following with no success:

-Using Rufus with the Magic Boot Disk iso
-Using Rufus with the MHDD CDROM iso
-Using Rufus with Boot-1.44M.img found inside of the MHDD CDROM iso
-Using Rufus to create a FreeDOS bootable USB and files from mhdd32ver4.6archive.zip
-Copying files from mhdd32ver4.6archive.zip to a FreeDOS bootable USB created with Rufus

Thx

It has something to do with the BIOS. Make sure turn off UEFI and secure boot if the computer skips booting from the USB

As far as i know, such as RUFUS, Ultra Iso, Power Iso, Iso to Usb and Win Iso can be used to make a bootable disk.
But if the laptop doesn't recognize anything,i don't know for what, maybe, when booting the laptop, the boot device does not boot from disk.

Change the default file system (FAT32) to exFAT, this works sometime

Hi,
I use easy2boot, www.easy2boot.com ,whith this software, you can boot unmodified isos directly from usb stick, just copy them to a folder.

The website looks horrible with tons of adsense ads. The tool is based on grub4dos and RMPrepUSB so no big innovation found. After a test, I found out the following programs way better than Easy2boot:

Without any challenges, all you need to do is burn iso to 8 GB USB via Rufus (Free ISO Burn).
