If this is real, find someone to take an image of your complete laptop hard drive. then run good data recovery software on the image such as GetDataBack or R-Studio.

That's about all you can do. No idea what results you are going to have, but I suspect poor.

The article shows how to recover files without removing the hdd. It also explains why you shouldn't expect much from such recovery.

i would have try raw recovery with a software like r-studio and search for the photos only, i.e. (*.jpg Etc.)
it doesn't matter how many times you have formated the drive, as long as the format was a quick format "AND NOT" a full format, and the data "is not" overwritten with new data.
if the format was a full format or it's overwritten with new data, your data is gone.

right, you must avoid writing on the problematic drive

why not ?

I'm afraid not

you can continue the installation on the drive if you want, but it's strongly recommended not to, by writing new data on drive in question, you lowering the chances of the recovery

Acutally there is a way to recover the files without removing the drive. R-Studio Emergency GUI Startup for Windows

Go to the link and scroll down to the bottom and download the Emergency GUI iso file. You then burn the iso to a disc and boot from it.
This will alow you to recover the files without needing to install R-Studio onto the drive as it runs R-Studio from the disc and the HDD is not in use.

You will just need to plug in a external drive or USB stick to save the recovered files too.
The free version will only recover files smaller than 256kb. But you will be able to preview all the files that it can recover so you know it will work before having to buy it.

lets say you wrote a story on a piece of paper with a pencil. then you changed your mind and rubbed it out with an eraser. Then you wrote another story on the same piece of paper and rubbed it out again. now lets say you wanted the original story... see how hard it would be to see it? that's what you would do if you tried to recover files to the same drive... you would overwrite the originals making it harder or impossible to get them back

I know but I am trying to get the OP to understand what overwriting means. I don't hold much hope for this case though.

Because overwritten pencil marks still have a slight chance you could eventually decipher it. Overwritten data, has absolutely zero chance.

Let's say you have a pint of Guinness, which you drink.

Then fill the pint glass up with lager.

But then you decide you want some more Guinness instead, so you search the glass of lager for the "missing" Guinness.

Guess what, it's gone!
