And no, it's not just using some crap software like Stellar or EaseUS which we all know doesn't work.
If anyone would like to see a sample of what I can do, please post a JPEG image below that has bad sectors and I'll repair/re-post it for you.

data-medics wrote:Edit: Actually the reason it's like that is you're not looking at the code of the original image. My site has a Wordpress plugin that compresses images that are higher resolution than they need to be. You're looking at a reduced resolution copy of the original, thus the smaller than 512 block of zeros.

Let's say that you have a client with a bad drive. You recover the data by PC-3000 / DE / Head Swap, whatever. You charge the client for exampl $1000 USD.
Now the client checks the data and he figures out that he have 1000 images that are very important to him/her that are damaged. This might happen because media/platter damage that you didn't notice.
Now what will you do ? Recover/restore the 1000 images by hand because the client already paid ? Or you offer the image restoration service at $10 for each image ? Wouldn't the client fell that it's sort of a scam ? Like having an initial payment and then another payment to recover the lost images ?
Unless you clear state when doing "normal" data recovery cases that in case of damaged images the price have to be paid acording to the images the client wants to recover ?

data-medics wrote:The color is a little off, probably because the first bad sector was so near to the top of the picture there was very little to compare the color with. It's close enough that most people wouldn't notice the repaired spots at a glance.
That'll be $10 please. JK

JPEG Repair Shop allows you to repair corrupt JPEG files by manipulating the internal structure of the JPEG file. This makes it possible to repair corrupt files, which would be impossible to fix in a normal image editor.
http://anderspedersen.net/jpegrepair/
How does it work?
The image data of JPEG is divided into small rectangular areas called MCUs (Minimum Coded Unit) which are encoded together. Because of the way JPEG files are compressed an error in an MCU is likely to be propagated to the remaining image data, either displacing the image or changing the colors. JPEG Repair Shop allows you to delete and insert MCUs and to automatically fix color errors.
