I'll second that. There's nothing like it at the price. I've had a lot of successes with it. Managed to recover thousands of photos from a faulty mac drive last week.. |

@alfarom, ISTR that you have MRT. Can MRT produce a map file for imaging purposes, like PC3000 does for Data Extractor? If so, then it shouldn't be too difficult to produce domain files for ddrescue/HDDSuperClone. Each domain file could target one particular head, thus enabling selective imaging by head. At the moment I'm writing a tool which converts DE maps to ddrescue domain files, but the same code could be adapted for MRT. |

I've haven't used MRT for quite a while now. The support was hopeless. However, it sounds an interesting development you are working on. |

Which Linux distro you advice to work with HddSuperClone? I would like to have one installed not a portable version. I noticed you disabled auto mount in the livecd, does HddSuperClone mounts the drives automatically when cloning? Just curious if whatever Linux I choose if I disable auto mount, it will work without any problem. I'm new to Linux, so sorry for noob questions. Thanks |

Thanks It is always best to clone/image a drive when it is not mounted, as you don't want the OS interfering. And is always best to have automount disabled when working with failing disks, again to keep the OS from interfering. HDDSuperClone does not mount the drive at all. Whatever Linux flavor you choose should work, but you should know how to turn off automount for it as a best practice. The worst case is you can manually unmount a drive if needed, but it is best to not have it mount in the first place. I prefer Xubuntu, but that is my personal preference. There are other reasons for my choice, but they involve the program building and compiling process, not program operation. |
