I am not a hardware guru; but I recently performed a LLF - checking the "perform quick wipe... " option.
It appeared to run successfully based on info below; but the drive seems unusable now.

The drive is a Seagate ST375033 with Firmware SD15 as seen below.

I've posted the current device details first.
Then the results of the LLF I did which "completed". (and, amazingly it just did it again - after failing a number of attempts previously, which prompted this post!!??)

So now I guess my REAL question has to be "does this drive 'look' usable?"

The number of bad sectors is far too high. I would not trust this drive any longer.

    5 05 Reallocated sectors count 100 100 2046

I'm surprised that your drive lasted 37720 hours. That's quite a good run for a model that is known to be unreliable. I'm curious to know the secret of its long life. What sort of environment was it running in?

The drive was in a Linux machine which was pretty heavily used. We have had good luck with WD RE3 level drives but this machine was built before we started doing that and I was actually surprised to see it fail. Of course, the reasons you stated don't make it surprising. There simply was no "warning."

The good news: it was RAIDed so the data is all recovered.

Cheers,

Tim
