Not sure of the context here, but R-studio is a fairly complete software package.

I present different recovery results to victims. Getdataback (Runtime software) hava satisfied results. This is more good file contains. Two disadvatanges, 1- File name recognization is not good, 2- Experience required. If you first usage data recovery software , no not use this.

Data recovery firms will use VERY EXPENSIVE hardware cards+software like PC-3000 UDMA/EXPRESS with DATA EXTRACTOR. Data Extractor can do logic recovery as well as hardware based imaging.

There are other tools like that as MRT PRO, DFL, HRT-DRE, etc ....

But ... Thos hardware based tools are more aimed to firmware repair and imaging/cloning and sometimes the logic recovery component of the tools can provide diferent results than other logic recovery software options.

Also if a DR firm is using the hardware card to image some drives that will take long they might want to have an "alternative" for simple jobs like drives that are fully working without bad blocks but they have missing files because for example the client deleted the files or formated the drive.

On those sittuations the majority of data recovery firms will use R-Studio, UFS Explorer, GetDataBack ort even other logic recovery tools.

If you have money to invest on hardware based tools like PC-3000 you will be way better served than with software only sollutions.

But for logic recovery some software based sollutions like R-Studio, GetDataBack, etc ... might be way better than the hardware based sollutions depending on the case and file system used (that you want to recover). Hardware based tools will allways be better than software to clone/image drives with bad sectors. You normally can get way more data out of a dying drive with hardware based sollutions.

So ideally you would need both.

Any "decent" data recovery firm (professional) will have one main hardware tool for firmware fix/cloning (Typically PC-3000 with DE), they will have something for cloning/imaging only (typically DDI4) and they will have several logic recovery software packages (typically R-Studio, GetDataBack and UFS Explorer) to attempt to recover the data out of the images/clones.

There are times that a hardware based PC-3000 unit is un-replaceble, like if you have a USB only encrypted WD drive and you replace the PCB by a SATA compatible one (if the drive can no longer work properly by USB no matter how many PCBs you try) and you get access to data buy all of it it's encrypted. PC-3000 DE can decrypt those sectors on-the-fly and you will be happy !!!! Other sollutions like ReallyMine (to decrypt) only support few types of encryption and takes a huge amount of time to decrypt a image of a drive ... Of course this is just one example. Another one is using PC-3000 to read ROM on WD PCBs by TTL to programm the new PCBs with native ROM, etc ....

Yes, IF the heads/pre-amp and PCB are ok !
