I NEED HELP WITH TRANSFERRING INFO OUT OF MY OLD HARD DRIVE

April 29th, 2017, 14:44

I had a dell laptop that crashed and I took out the hard drive out of it and I'm trying to transfer information from it to either my new laptop or an external hard drive and It's not working. I have the SATA cable and when I connect the hard drive to my laptop I can't open any files to view or transfer them. I went to computer management, storage, disk management and I can see the hard drive being connected and it has like 900gb on it but I can't pull any information from it. Can anyone help?

Is it protected by a password?

What does CrystalDiskInfo report?

By description, looks like there was no encryption. But, as fzakbar said, try to check drive by CrystalDiskInfo, HDDScan or Hard Disk Sentinel (or similar). There can be a bad-sectors with delayed response or some interface problem.
